**As I write this by the moonlight and a dim flashlight, I think what a beautiful night. The moon is so bright, the brightest I've seen in a while. I’m learning to live a normal life again. The moon is full, and high tonight, but I haven’t changed yet making me feel a sense of control against the monster contained inside of me. Although I still fight the urge of transformation every five or so minutes, I am getting better at controlling the beast, the virus that haunts my body. I still haven’t told anyone about that night, so Marcus, the only other victim who was with me, should be the only other person to know what happened. I am unaware if he can control it yet or not, but he mentioned that he was having trouble with the containment part. He is thin and a few years younger than me, but we have had similar transformations the night of the incident. I guess his terrible immune system let the disease get to him and control him faster than my fairly good immune system. Whatever it is, it still sucks. Alright, I feel the monster trying to emerge, I will write another day**
Tomas Put the pen down and drank some delightful Monster Energy Drink thinking how ironic it was for him to be drinking that specific drink. The energy drink kept him awake which he needed to be as awake and aware as he possibly could. If he were to dose off while the monster was trying to escape he could transform. Once the monster is unleashed there is no saying what the beast would do.
Tom slowly fell into a deep sleep, making sure that the beast was fully contained and would not wreak havoc that night. It was the first full moon night he got any sleep since that horrible night. It was only two months ago that the creature in the woods wondered towards their tent and attacked his 15 year old cousin Marcus and him. Tomas had just turned 17 and his mom had finally let him take his cousin on a camping trip in his 9 ½ acres of wooded land without having to drag is stepfather. Although Tom’s stepfather Aiden and him had been the best of friends ever since Tom’s family met Aiden, Tom was very excited to take his cousin out alone. It was supposed to be a great adventure of the inseparable cousins, but it turned into a bloody nightmare.
Chapter 1: Nightmares“Hey Mark are you sure you packed enough water?” Tom yelled down the hill as he started the fire in the pit. They went to one of the many campsites Tom has on his parent’s property. “Yes, I packed more than enough, and if we run out there’s a stream about 20 yards south.” Marcus screamed back as he headed towards the newborn fire after setting the tent up. It was rapidly getting dark, and they both were relieved the fire was started. “This week camping trip is an awesome way to end the summer!” Mark was especially excited for this trip. “I know, I’m still glad my parent’s let us do this” Tom replied. They were alone in the woods with just enough supplies to get them by for a week.
“Hey man go get the pan and the beans, I’m ready for some midnight snacks!” Tom said to Mark as Mark agreed and started to walk down to the tent. Something felt wrong to Tom as mark went down though. Tom pushed the feeling off, but a few minutes later he heard the terrified screams from his cousin, and sprinted down to the tent. What he saw after changed his life forever. He wasn’t sure what it was, but it was clawing at Mark’s face. It noticed Tom and leaped mouth open with razor sharp teeth…
Tom woke up realizing it was just a night mare of that terrible night while taking a sip of his now flat and warm monster energy drink. He glanced at the clock… It read 4 A.M. He got a total of 3 hours of sleep even though they weren’t exactly the most delightful. He couldn’t go back to sleep now or else he would be late for school. Monday morning, almost as terrifying as the beast locked up inside of his body. Tomas then laid and waited until an hour passed so he could get ready and leave to pick up Mark and drive to the prison they call school. On the bright side Mark will make his day better, and since last night was a full moon they would have a lot to talk about.
*Beep Beep* *Beep Beep* *Beep Beep* Tom rolled over to his alarm clock. 5 o’clock already? It felt like he just woke up from his horrible nightmare. Not that the nightmares were unusual because they have been occurring a lot lately. *Beep Beep* *Beep Bee…* he turned off the alarm and slumped out of his twin sized bed.
Once he was ready for school he shifted down to the kitchen where he was greeted by his gorgeous mother. “Hello sunshine how was your night?” His mother was just like any other. She was overly trying to be more of a part of his life. Tom didn’t think it was a good characteristic of his mother, but it was rather an annoyance to him. Especially because the only real time they ever spend together is camping in the woods, and he didn’t want to think of camping or woods at the moment, so he just replied “eh it was okay I guess.” Shifting to another subject she asked “Did you get that minor essay about your personality finished last night? I heard you up pretty late last night.” “I finished that yesterday and I was just having trouble sleeping is all.” Tom replied with hopes of his mother stopping the conversation. “Well you know we have Nyquil if you need it honey. You better get going soon though my Tommy Boy.” She did that annoying high pitched mom to baby voice. Although she was right about the fact that he needed to get going because he still needs to pick up Mark. He grabbed his back pack, said goodbye to his mother and zoomed away in his 2000 Subaru Impreza his parents got him for his 16th birthday.
When Tom got to his cousins house mark was waiting on his porch looking disappointed and a bit gloomy. Mark slumped in the car “Hey Tom.” “What’s up Mark?” Tom greeted Mark. He was anxious to ask the upcoming question that was bound to come up. “Not much…So did you have any changes last night?” Mark didn’t seem thrilled to ask the question. “No not yesterday, how about you Mark?” “Actually I had two…” “What?” Tom was confused at how that was possible. “Well I was doing great on the whole animal in me part until… well… my girlfriend called me and she broke up with me… I just kind of lost it, and this ‘monster’ just burst out and took over.” “Dang Mark. I’m sorry man.” “It’s fine, I’m just a little down lately. So you didn’t change at all last night?” “Surprisingly no! I think I’m starting to get the hand of this monster!” Tom was proud of himself but felt his cousin’s pain. Neither of the two boys talked the rest of the drive to school.
