1. Now

She kept staring into distance completely ignoring the fact that a government official was sitting before her waiting patiently for an answer, any answer from her.

"I am going to ask you one last time, who did you kill?" he sighed after a whole minute making her look at him. The look on his face clearly suggested that he didn't believe her, not even an ounce but still she repeated the same sentence that she's been repeating to all the officers who walked into the room and questioned her.

"I killed myself."

"that's it! Ronald, she is insane. It's better if you call a psychiatrist here rather than waste our time," Oliver, the officer before her nagged as he pushed his chair and walked out of the room to join his colleagues Ronald and Nathan.

"she's just lunatic on the loose and her mental instability might have led her to kill a random girl and destroy the body so badly that there is no possible way to identify the victim," the officer theorized.

"would you mind if I interrogate her, Oliver?" Nathan kept the file down that he was going through and looked at Oliver.

"are you nuts? You already witnessed ten officers interrogate this lass and the only thing she says is that she killed herself. She doesn't say anything else other than that! We need a doctor here Nathan, not a cop," Oliver exclaimed.

"I second that," Ronald sipped through his expresso cup as he went on clicking and typing over his computer.

"I would still like to talk to her myself," Nathan insisted looking at the shackled girl sitting behind the polarized glass. Oliver sighed irritated.

"if you want to talk to a loon, then be my guest," he mocked before gesturing Nathan towards the room. Ronald stopped whatever he was doing to look at Nathan. Pushing away from his desk, Nathan walked towards the room wearing a poker face. He might have let the matter slip away and let his colleagues do whatever they wanted with her if he hadn't spotted the hesitation on her face a couple of times before some officers walked out on her. He felt as if she wanted to tell something but didn't for some reason. He inhaled deeply relaxing his nerves before opening the door.

He observed that the girl didn't even care to look at him. She must have been fed up with the repeated procedure.

"hi! I'm officer Nathan Sylvester," he introduced himself catching her attention for a second before she turned away to stare at the wall that seemed more interesting to her than him at the moment.

He had to make her talk, gain her trust so that she could spill out whatever she had buried inside her chest. Clearing his throat he continued, "you must be really hungry and thirsty by sitting here all morning. Ronald, get us something to eat please!" he shouted looking at his reflection on the polarized glass.

"so, what is your name?" he started casually as if the girl before him was just a regular girl that he met in a café. She looked taken back seeing a friendly smile on his face. None of the officers she encountered before had talked to her in such tone nor had they cared to ask her name for she had answered that to the very first cop who asked her for her name, so no one else cared to repeat that question.

"Andrea," she replied after a short while.

"Andrea," he repeated as if tasting her name on his tongue.

"how old are you,  Andrea?" he asked bending over the table as he placed his elbows above it.

"twenty four," she replied in a small voice.

"I'm twenty nine," he commented making her rise her eyebrows. She kept staring at him in disbelief. After going through all the types of questions and remarks, she was facing him, who was asking her for her name and her age and in fact was also telling her his details.

"Did you attend a university or something?" he asked making her nod in reply.

"good, what subjects did you master in?" he asked.

"computer science and physics," she murmured.

"that's a really good choice of subjects. You know I had taken up political science and music and I don't even know how I ended up here," he chuckled.

"how is computer science? I always pictured it to be a quite dry subject, just some mind baffling codes and all. Using a computer is a total different subject but programming and all, no please," he commented.

"it isn't that bad. You must get familiarized with a computer language then it is very easy to play around," she mumbled in a low voice.

"you are right. Maybe I'll give it a try someday. And one more thing, don't be scared of me, talk to me freely. I'm here to help you, not to hurt you," Nathan smiled as he winked at her. A warm and fuzzy feeling filled inside Andrea. Something was telling her that he was telling the truth, he was a good guy and she could trust him. There was a mild knock at the door.

"Nathan your food and drinks," Oliver's mocking tone echoed through the room as he entered and placed the package over the table and eyed Nathan pointedly.

"just get out of here, alright," Nathan groaned at Oliver's intense stare. Glancing one last time at Andrea who slightly shivered under his, Oliver marched out of the room leaving the duo alone. Andrea definitely did not like him much.

"I hope you like pasta because that is what they ordered without caring to ask us about our opinion," Nathan stated as he unpacked the food making Andrea hum in answer. Truth to be told, Andrea was so hungry that she cared less about what she ate. She just needed something in her stomach at the moment and pasta smelled delicious.

"what's your favorite food?" Nathan asked handing her a plate of pasta.

"I like pies. Chicken pie is my favorite," she replied taking a bite of her food.

"I like lasagna. The flavors just overwhelm my senses."

On the other side of the polarized glass, Oliver was fuming.

"what the hell is he doing? Befriending a murder? Out of all the people, he had to choose a psycho killer to make friends with?" Oliver threw his hands in the air utterly pissed off.

"I think I have an idea about what he is doing," Ronald uttered thoughtfully.

"care to enlighten me?" Oliver mocked.

"just wait and watch," was all that Ronald replied with a arrogant smirk on his lips as he watched the duo continue the conversation behind the polarized glass.

"did you get to inform anyone about your stay here?" Nathan enquired.

"no, they didn't let me call anyone. Not even my lawyer," Andrea tried to blink away the tears.

"I will do it for you. But what do I tell your lawyer?" Nathan stated politely. Andrea smelled something fishy, didn't cops usually know what to tell the person on the other side of the line when a friend or a relative of that person was arrested?

But she just pushed the thought away and said, "tell her that I killed myself."

"wouldn't she think that it is some kind of prank if I tell her that?" Nathan raised his eyebrow.

Shaking her head, Andrea countered, "you have to believe me. I killed myself."

"Andrea, I believe you and I know that whatever you are telling is true. That is why I requested them to talk to you while they are preparing to send you to an asylum. I need to know what happened and why, so that I can save you from being certified as a mentally disturbed person. You have to tell me, everything," he emphasized. Andrea looked away, internally debating if she could tell him about the dark event of her life or she should just shut down as she had been doing with rest of the officers.

"you can trust me," Nathan encouraged her.

She nodded before warning, "this is going to sound really weird but it is the truth I will tell you."

"I am not going to judge you, if you are thinking about that. I'm all ears, now shoot," he stated seriously.

"I will start with the events that occurred a month ago. The starting of this whole thing. The starting of my nightmare," Andrea stared into the distance.

2. Past

ONE MONTH AGO

Andrea looked at the invitation that she held in her hand and then looked at the crowd around her dressed up as supernatural creatures. She had higher hopes about a Halloween party rather than being suffocated in a sea of people in a dimly lit room. She was expecting a haunted house and scary games and stories that she was accustomed to since her childhood.

She was definitely not expecting a typical high school party with jocks and cheerleaders who were drowning themselves in liqueur. Actually it was a college party invaded by the high schooler friends of the host's brother. Those kids were really getting under Andrea's nerves as they were pretending to be something that they weren't.

Andrea looked at her wrinkled red fairy dress and noticed a small hole burned in the flare of the skirt. Frowning at the damage she looked around again to see if she could find the cause of the hole but hardly saw anything within
