Samantha was sitting at her computer writing emails.

The window was right next to her and the beautiful blue sky with curly clouds stared at her through the half-drawn blinds.

It was her birthday and she had invited her relatives and friends for a gettogether in the evening, so she didn’t want to spend too much time in the office.

On finshing her last correspondence, she briskly walked up to her boss and said assertively “Now that’s what you call a speedy job.”

“A speedy job. What the heck does that mean? You mean you finished your work. Oh, and happy birthday once again. How’s the birthday girl doing?”

“Ahm..pretty well, thank you, considering the amount of workI was given on my birthday.”
Mr Robertson raised his eyebrows.

“Right…um…so can I go now ..coz you promised I could move out the moment I finished my work. Please, Mr Robertson, let me go. Birhdays come just once a year. Plus, I’ve been doing overtime for the wholel last week. Plus, I promised I’d pick up your kids from ballet classes for the whole next month and drop them at your wife’s place every Sunday…..Plus…”
“Alright , alright, you can go" and with that her boss was out and about leaving her to finish one or two last things.

She finished most of what was left. Everyone else was back home, and she was waiting for the printout so she could hand it over to the director the next day.

Something creaked in the next room. Was it the door? Was it the window against the wind? She continued working, for, being an orphaned girl, she knew how to take care of herself.
Suddenly, between the almost inaudible sound of the printer, she heard a thud . It sounded as if someone was banging something against the wall against which the table and the printer were placed. She rushed to the other room.

It was the director’s room. She flung the door open to find the huge table in the same place as before. The maroon curtains were softly swaying in the night breeze and a full moon view struck her in the face. Then, she heard the sound again- the sound of someone falling on the ground.

She went quickly to the window and looked out and saw a man running through the trees with something in his hands. Yasmin ran out of the office, took the lift to the ground floor and jumped out of the front stairs to land on the street. Then she turned in the opposite direction and went between the trees to chase the man she had just seen.
