This morning started like every other school day, my extremely annoying alarm clock woke me up. The longer I take to hit the snooze button the louder and faster the obnoxious beeping gets. Every morning I remind myself to get a new one, but never manage to go to the store.
I dragged myself out of bed and slipped into my robe and fuzzy slippers. It was oddly quiet this morning, which was really strange in this house. It sounded like no one else was awake, but when I went to check they were all up. Dad had gone to work early like he always does; Mom was downstairs cooking breakfast, and my younger sister just got out of our shared bathroom. That means its shower time.
After taking a shower, I straightened my long blonde hair. Even though every single time I do my mom always says, “You have pin straight hair and no reason to straighten it.”
I went back into my room, did my make up, and slipped on my favorite pair of white skinny jeans and a light blue sweater with a lacey back. I carefully picked feathery earrings to wear in the second whole and large silver hoops to wear in the first, so it looks like the feathers are inside of the hoop. Before I leave my room I put on my tall black Uggs and gather my books and purse.
When I get downstairs my sister is eating and my mom is still standing by the stove, but this time she looked upset. Oh crap, did Cochiti tell her about the last night?!?!
“Seneca, I hear you didn’t drive your sister to school with you yesterday and you made her wait for the bus,” She said with a frown line showing by her lip.
Thank god, not what I thought she was going to say. “I’m sorry Mom, she was making me late and I wanted to get there earlier to talk to a teacher of mine. I should have waited and talked to the teacher after school.”
“As long as you drive to school, you bring your sister. Please don’t leave her like that again.”
I wanted to snap back saying it’s not my job to drive her everywhere, but decided it would be best to keep my thoughts to myself.
“Come on Coch, I’ll meet you outside.” I said as I walked toward the door grabbing a sweatshirt off the coat hanger.
I walked out to my bright blue jeep and shoved my school stuff into the back seat, leaving room for Coch up front. Today was going to be interesting, I have tests in almost all my classes and my sister is going to make me late once again. She really needs to learn how to either get ready faster or wake up earlier.
In the school parking lot a large, loud, black pickup parked in the back row by the other trucks, and a boy with brown hair climbed out. We don’t really get new students here so its kind of a big deal, and this big deal certainly was good looking. I looked around and saw that all the other girls currently in the parking lot were staring at him. He started walking toward the school which was in my direction. As he got closer I saw that he had warm brown eyes, he was tall, and muscular on top of that, I can tell already that all the girls would be in awe over him. Once again today is going to be interesting, I started to walk toward the main doors of the school when all of a sudden I heard someone call to me, I turned around to see him there smiling.
“Hey, I’m Chase I was wondering where my first class is, can you help me?” He asked holding his schedule out for me to see. Chase was so good looking I thought I was going to melt.
“Yeah, I have that class too I can show you where it is.” I said with a smile and told him that we had Lunch and American Studies together too.
Once inside I swear everyone was watching the two of us, I never imagined this many people would be looking at me unless I managed to do something extremely stupid. But they weren’t just looking at me, they were gaping at him. A few girls grouped together whispering by the lockers gave me death glares as to back off, but they don’t realize I don’t care what they do. I brought him to the main office to get his locker combination and I found out it was only a couple down from mine. I hung my sweatshirt up and grabbed binders for the first 3 periods then shut it and walked over the Chase’s locker.
“You ready to go?” I asked as I walked up. Just then my best friend walked up and looked from me to Chase winking, I laughed and shook my head.
She then turned to him and smiled saying, “Hey, I’m Helena, Seneca’s best friend.” Then he introduced himself and we all started walking to class, the entire time we walked we were laughing at what one another said. Helena liked him…she has a tell, which is she smiles and laughs at everything, and also the way she looks at the guy she likes. I have a feeling this one is not going to turn out well though. He is going to and already has all the girls in the school fawning over him.
As soon as we got in the science classroom, the teacher made Chase stand up in front of the class and introduce himself. While the guys sit there trying to find an asset they have better than Chase, the girls could not take their eyes off of him, if the apocalypse was in progress none of them would notice. Typical. The funny thing though was Chase was looking at one person in the room the entire time, and that was me. Chase went back to his seat and sat down glancing my way and smiling.
I’m pretty sure I failed my test, because I couldn’t get my thoughts straight. There were so many distractions today and the new hot guy who befriended me was only one.
I walked into the cafeteria and saw my and Helena’s usual table, so I went and put my books down. She told me she would be running a little late so I turned around to go toward the sandwich line and that’s when everyone in the cafeteria seemed to start whispering amongst themselves and some staring longingly at the entrance to the lunch room, it’s the guy’s first day cut him a break. That’s when Chase came and put his books next to mine.
“Hey how is your first day going so far?” I asked surprised he wasn’t sitting by the jocks and cheerleaders where he seems he would fit in a lot better.
“Really good so far, I’m pretty sure I’ve been stared at most of the day though.” He laughed smiling, and a table over I’m pretty sure I heard a girl sigh.
“Around here we don’t really get new classmates, so it’s kind of a big deal, especially good looking guys like yourself.” I laughed and smiled back.
“Well thanks,” he blushed a little bit; “You want to get lunch now?”
“Sure, what’s your favorite type of sandwich?”
“Ham, cheese, and salami, how about yourself?” Chase asked, which totally surprised me because mine was the exact same.
“Same!” after we both laughed we ordered our sandwiches, got our drinks, and went to sit.
Helena was at the table waiting for us, and now comes the firing squad of questions. Yayy.
“Hey guys! Chase how’s your day going?” She asked almost a little too excited to hear the answer.
“Really good so far, everyone here treats me so nicely, and I like all the teachers, there is already a couple girls that seem to like me that I think are pretty cute.” Helena giggled. She actually giggled. This is a very strange occurrence, she never giggles except for if she is in over her head, and that was now.
Lunch today taught me that I have the same favorite color as Chase, his dad passed away in a car accident, and other little things you learn from playing the question game.
“You guys ready to go to American Studies?” I asked thankful it’s the class we don’t have a test in today.
All the talk today was about Chase, the head cheerleader Trisha was talking to her second in command, Leslie, about how she was surprised he picked Helena and me over the cheerleading squad or the jocks. Then again the entire school was surprised, especially me. Why would such a good looking guy who could fit in with anyone at this school especially the more popular kids, pick me? I’m just happy to have a new friend who is super nice. There goes my dopey grin again, now people are staring at me probably thinking what’s wrong with her, oh well.
“Hello class, I see we have a new student today, please pick up a book off the shelf and we will begin learning about Native Americans in this area and around the world.” Mr. Gisler was my favorite teacher this year, he was cool and always calm no matter what but he made the class fun. I always enjoyed what we were learning even if it was the most boring part of history.
“There are caves lining the sides of the mountains around here, the Indians took cover in them during storms and found most comfort in there so some lived there year round. Sometimes you can find artifacts or cave paintings inside of them but only sometimes. Certain caves though were originally formed by the earth and the Native Americans only discovered them and used them as an aid to living. These have connecting passageways and caves sometimes even secret lakes, but these caves are rare and hard to find. There are warnings everywhere not to enter them or bad omens will
