Walking down the twisted roots of the tree, memories flooding me off my childhood, so easily can I remember playing here with my siblings as a younger version of myself. The cold breeze making my hair flow like I was a possessed angel, brown leafs floating over me and catching on my clothes. I sighed aloud and sat on the root I was standing upon. I looked out to the green surrounding me, trying to make out the objects though I couldn’t see well enough. I jumped to the bottom of the roots and grabbed my tote bag- my arm swam through a lot of objects and eventually found my glasses. I placed them upon my head and blinked my eyes hard, squeezing them shut and opening fast. Finally I was no longer seeing everything in a blurred motion, I could see straight and I started to climb up the roots of the great twisted tree again. I reached the root I was last sitting on and placed myself back to the same position.
Staring into the green mist ahead, listing to the birds and wishing life was as simple as it once was. It had been such a long time since I had been in this forest, I think the last time was with my mum and youngest sister; Louise. I was about thirteen at the time; I remember it quite well actually. It was only three days before everyone was killed and taken away; I shuddered at that memory. That day was terrible, so was my life after it. Anyways, back to my story. I had been sitting on a root just like this one, my little sister was eight and mum was still very young; thirty...I think, maybe a little younger. They were sitting below me eating cupcakes and fizzy pink lemonade. It was a nice little picnic until my three younger brothers came running through the forest (Bailey who was only five, Jace who was ten and Oliver who was twelve) They ran through the rug mum and Louise had been sitting on and smashed all the cakes, spilling the drinks.
Mum got so mad, it was meant to be just us girls on a fun day out, of course we had excluded Abigail and Elodie from the trip but for good reasons; they were both only two after all. But not long after the boys had run over and spoiled everything did my dad come following panting, holding both little girls in his arms. He placed them on the floor near mum, Abigail stood and wondered around a little but Elodie sat a stared at me. She had always liked me the most, it sounds mean... but she really did. (Once mum had offered to take her for an ice-cream without Abigail; and to both twins going out without the other was awesome. She said not unless I could go.) It was a nice day besides the boys ruining it.
I heard the sound of crunching and it distracted me from my memories, footsteps I thought. I must be someone coming, I quickly jumped from the tree and my feet hurt a little from the landing. I looked around desperately, trying to find somewhere to hide. All I could see was orangey green leaves covering the floor and twisting roots shooting into giant trees. Nothing to hide in though, I could have easily hide behind a tree but I don’t know where the sound is coming from. I started to panic... “Come on T, look...LOOK, find somewhere.” I said encouraging myself. I spotted some fallen over trees and their roots looked like the best option so I ran back to my tote, flung it over my shoulder and ran; I carefully but quickly slid down through the dirt and braches and hid in the twisted roots.
The crunching of leaves under the persons feet got louder and then stopped, I could tell they were very close and I held my breath. There was slow movement and then the feet of this person were right in front of me. I froze in place and I swear my heart stopped beating. They feet moved, but not away, on no... They’ve seen me I thought. The person was slowly crouching to be eyelevel with me. They had black boots on, lace up boots... unlike the ones I’m used to seeing. The person crouched down further and suddenly I was staring into a pair of deep brown eyes. She was a girl, about eighteen; so close to my age. I almost screamed when I recognised her face, actually I passed out and my whole world blacked out.
I woke and heard heavy breathing; this time I managed to scream and very loudly, I looked around with blurred vision. But when I looked at her again, I started to cry. I was screaming and crying even though I wasn’t positive it was her. “L....L... Louise?” I asked the girl. When I said her name, no matter how shaky my voice was I started to cry. So long have I thought about what had happened to my family, and one member was in front of me. She hugged me and started humming a gentle soothing song to me, I calmed a little and we stayed like that for a few small but significant moments.
She was so calm, which was rather confuzing... here I am falling apart in my little sisters arms and shes seems to think this is normal? Does she remember me? I asked myslef. Trying to gain mre knolwedge of my sistuation. “L...L...Lousie?” I asked her name, seeing if shed respond. I sat uright and steadied my srying to just a few small drops. “yes, T?” she replied, I held back tears, she does know me. “You rember me?” she laughed at my question “Of corse I know my own sister, you havent changed much sience I was a little girl” just then I realized, Lousie isint eight annymore, actually I don’t know her age at all. “Louise, How old are you nowdays? Its been quite a long time, several years or so” I asked, there was a short silence but she broke it with her beautiful voice’ I belive my sister should sing with the angles, as shed beat them all voice wise. “Fourteen now, your nineteen right?” she asked, I just nodded; still in a bit of shock she was there.
