Aboard the Titanic
Chapter One: Elisa
I'm nearly pushed off the dock as I stumble through the crowds of adults wearing $300 outfits. Even though I was twenty-two, they treated me like a child. As I struggled to hold onto my bags, I hear a man's voice. "All first class, please board the Titanic at this time." Thats right. The Titanic. My parents are so rich that they snagged five first class tickets, for them, me, and my brother and sister. My brother's name is William. He's fourteen years old, and loves sailing. This will be a little different, but I think he'll like the Titanic. My twenty-one year old sister, however, is a different matter all together. "Ugh. I can't believe they let this, this filth, on the same dock as us." I hear her say. You see what I mean? Her name is Evelyn. She's exactly like my parents. She's rich, arrogant, and seriously conceited. All three of them think they're better than everyone who are not 1st class, like them.
"Can you, Elisa?" Evelyn snaps. I realize this is like, the 3rd time she has asked me. "No I cannot!" I say, mimicking her whiny voice. She rolls her eyes. We've made it to the boarding ramp.
I look up at the huge ship. The name Titanic, written in blue, blocky letters is on the side of the ship. "Amazing...." William whispers. "Yeah." I whisper back. "You know Evelyn is going to freak when she see's how close the steerage is to her cabin." I turn to glare at him. "What?" he asks, acting innocent. "Refer to them as the 3rd class. It's nicer. You people call them that like they're animals." He shrugs, as if to say they are, and I kick him. I turn away, but I can feel his eyes burning holes in my head. We finally went up the ramp.
Chapter Two: Elisa
As my shoes touch the wooden deck, I think, my first step on the Titanic. I don't feel wobbly as I walk to my cabin; but then again, we are on the biggest ship of all time. Very unlike Williams' sailboats. I reach my cabin.
Cabin 409. I get out my key and unlock it. Inside is a queen-sized bed, a bedside table and lamp, and a dresser against the wall. There's another door which I assume leads to the bathroom.
I fall backwards onto the down-feather bed and sigh, but then lift my head back up to look at the wall clock. Five thirty-five, time for the dinner my mom is forcing me to attend. I groan, then get up to change and get ready.
I twirl in the dress I had slipped on. It's a satin black form-fitting dress that twirls out at the bottom, going well with my pearl earrings. My long blond hair is put up in a fancy up-do, all piled on my head, not in my eyes, thankfully. I glance at the clock again. Time to go.
"Hello Mother." I say sitting down in my seat. She glares at me because I'm late, but then smiles on behaf of the old people sitting with us. I look around the table at the people sitting with us. I know none of them. My mom introduces me to them of course, but I remember none of their names.
I respectfuly eat, but by the time I'm done, (which doesn't take long) I'm so hungry I excuse myself to sneak something from the galley. I really hate how my mom's friends eat such tiny portioned meals. They aren't gonna get fat from one meal, I mean seriously!
Sneaking around the staff, I grab the only full crab leg from a platter by the galley door, and run straight to my cabin.
As I settle down to eat it, I hear a knock at the door. I quickly hide the food, then refix my hair in the mirror on my way to the door. I open the door to a man around my age, with dirty brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. I smile. "Yes?" I notice his attire, and see he is a coal worker. "Um, are you Miss Elisa Mattlock?" he asks. I notice he's handsome as well. "Yes I am. Who are you?" "Luke Victon, miss. I was sent here with a message. From a Aurelia Mattlock?" My mother. Ugh. "Yes, she is my mother. What does she need?" I ask.
"To have a word with you!" I hear a shrill voice. I look past Luke to see my mother stalking towards me. Ugh. She walks up and pushes past Luke. "Go back to the lower decks, steerage. I need to speak with my daughter." Luke turns around to leave. "It was nice meeting you, Luke!" I say as he walks down the corridor. He turns around and smiles, and I give him what I hope was a I'm so sorry!, look. He walks around the corner and I lose sight of him. My mother turns on me.
Chapter Three: Elisa
"First of all, why did you walk out, and why were you talking to that filth?" she practicly yells at me. I glare at her. "He's not filth! He's a person, a human! And I left, because I'm twenty-two! I'm old enough to leave the table without asking you." I cross my arms. My mother looks ready to slap me. "You are confined to your cabin for the rest of the day." she says briskly, then exits the cabin. I groan, then fall onto my bed. Good thing my window opens up on the deck. And that I love sneaking out.
After deciding that, I go and open the door I had seen earlier and see that it is a bathroom. I slip out of my dress and into the shower. The cool water runs down me in turrents; a huge relief.
I slip on my simpliest dress; a black, ankle-length, sleeved dress. Climbing onto my nightstand, I open the circular window. Standing up on my dresser, I wiggle out.
I land on the deck with a muffled thump. Sneaking my way past the richer folk who know my mother, I go to the bow. The sun was just setting, and the view was breathtaking. I quickly take off my heels, climb onto the railing, and sit.
"Beautiful isn't it?" I start when I hear the voice behind me. I turn around. "Oh, hello. What was your name again? Lewis?" I say feining forgetfulness. "Luke. Don't tell me you forgot me already?"he says looking at me with a look of mock horror. I giggle. "No, not really. I'm pretty good with names." He smiles. I pat the railing. "Sit." I order. He jumps up on the railing, nearly falling off in the process. I grab his arm to steady him. "Woah! Don't fall!" I say. "Yeah. Pretty long way down." He looks down, and I follow his gaze; the water split for the massive ship.
"So what are you doing out this late at night?" I ask. "I could ask you the same question." he replies. "Yeah but I asked you first." I counter. He gives in.
Chapter Four: Luke
"I just needed some fresh air from being in the boiler room all day." I say. "Don't you have to work the whole trip?" she asks. "Nah. I have time to talk to beautiful ladies such as yourself." I continue. She blushes. What am I saying? I'm flirting with a girl I've only known for a couple of hours! She doesn't seem to mind though. "What do you do? Sit around all day sipping tea?" I ask. "Hardly." she replies. "I sit around all day in a suffocating corset, talking to a bunch of old rich people my parents know! Then I sip tea." "Sounds like torture. Although I rather be eating fancy food, instead of slaving for the ship all day." I say. "Yeah." she says.
"You know my mother would kill me if she knew I was with you." she says suddenly. "I figured. She probably thinks I'll hurt you or something." I reply. "Would you?" she whispers. I look up. "No! I would never dream of hurting you." And as she looks up at me, I notice her silky white-blonde hair, and her sparkling sea-blue eyes; she's so beautiful. That's when I make the stupidest decision of my life. Or maybe the smartest. I kiss her. She kisses me back. I grab her face and she wraps her arms around my neck. We're still kissing, when the sun sets.
Chapter Five: Elisa
Then suddenly we're back on the deck. We brake apart on the impact. We're both laying on our backs looking up. And my mother is looking down at us, a scowl marking her face.
"Elisa!" she yells. I gulp. "How dare you, mess around with this animal!" she screams. My ears are hurting now. I get up and help Luke up. "Shut up mother." I say. She's red in the face and it looks like her head is about to explode. "E-Excuse me?" she stutters. "Shut up." I repeat. Knowing she's going to practicly explode when I do this, I grab Luke's hand and run.
"Elisa!!" she shrieks. I'm close to laughing as I watch her stumble in her 6 inch heels. "Don't stop running!" I say to Luke. "No problem. Those heels could be used as weapons!" he says. I giggle.
All of a sudden, I hear a yell, then the ship shakes. I grab onto Luke to steady myself.
"What was that, Luke?" I ask. We run back to where we had been. And right into an icy warzone. Chunks of ice were everywhere, and the men from the watch-tower were climbing down. "What's happened?" I ask one of the men. His eyes are wide with terror. "Iceberg!" It's all I can get from him. I look at Luke, and see the relization hit him the moment it hits me. "The ship is--" "Sinking." I finish for him.
Chapter Six: Elisa
As Luke and I run, I wonder briefly how many lifeboats there are. Probably not enough.
"We have to get you to a lifeboat, Elisa!" Luke says. "What about you?" I ask. He pauses. "I'm not important." "Yes you are!" I yell. Luke seems surprised that I yelled at him. I grab him. "I'm not leaving you!" I say. And in that small moment I know I'm in love with him. Without reason, I lean in and kiss him. Long, and hard. We brake apart. "Just in case." I say. We both know what the 'just in case' was for, but we don't say it out loud. He nods. "Yeah. Just in case." I lean in one more time, but I slip and fall. The ship was sinking rapidly, the bow was already underwater. Luke grabs my hand, and we go into an open door.
When we walk in, we find we're in the upperclass dining rooms. The rich people that are there, look at me with regonition. They look at Luke like he was an insect. I'm thinking of a way to tell them the ship is sinking, when a man bursts into the room.
"The ship is sinking!" he yells. So much for that. But sadly, they just laugh at him. I speak up. "The ship really is sinking!" I say. They believe me; I'm one of them. That's when the panic starts.
Chapter Seven: Luke
All the rich people start talking and whispering. So much for panic. A young
