Springtime

Ball

Come one come all
To the springtime ball
Located in the glen
At half past ten.

The news is spreading, there’s a party tonight!
Friends are coming, it will be such a delight.
With stringed instruments the crickets are the rage
but now its time to turn the channel, flip the page.

Sylvia and the glowworms will perform real cool tunes,
not quite the norm, something over the moon.
Get ready to amp it up as we change the sound,
let our feet leave impressions all over the ground.

We don’t need any of those slow and dreamy songs.
With everyone agreeing they say "Let's party on!"

***

Looking around Mitzi was nowhere to be found!
There was a search party assembled from all around.
She has always shined, the center of the celebration.
When she sang there was always a standing ovation.

Dividing up in teams to cover more terrain,
all the time searching and calling her name.
Then I heard her voice echoing in the night,
"Please let me go, this just isn’t right.

I sing tonight, I have some place to be.
My friends are all there waiting for me."
Ever so cautiously the group ahead we inspected,
approaching very quietly, so as not to be detected.

Looking over at the campfire burning so high
I had to have a plan--this couldn’t be for nigh.
We all huddled close and talked of our attack,
voices low we shared ideas (and what we did lack).

True, we may be odd, strangely shaped and small,
but with luck and planning we could

conquer all.
