He never thought himself to be a sentimental man, but he could not help but compare her finely constructed features to that of a creamy-skinned goddess, with eyes like gleaming emeralds and lips like rubies. The two were so close, only a hairsbreadth apart. If he leaned forward just a little, he could taste those beautiful lips that had been looming before him like forbidden fruit.
Instead, he immersed himself in her intoxicating scent, sinking into the abyss of desire and temptation that threatened to overwhelm him, to encompass his mind, thoughts, and good judgement. No
, he cautioned himself, I need a clear head right now
.
But that was impossible. Her strands of pure gold kept blowing into the air by the whisper of the wind as she stared at him without displaying any emotion. He felt the strongest urge to catch a lock of sunshine in his shaking fingers, to twirl it in his hand and marvel at its magnificence. Her allure only increased as the time passed, making it harder and harder to resist.
The thin blades of grass, sparkling with clear drops of the morning dew, tickled his face as he falteringly stretched out a single hand towards her. He had fallen head over heels under her mystical spell, captured by the strength of her gaze. Both of them were suspended in time on the cool grass, oblivious to their surroundings.
After a moment of hesitation, his hand reached her face, caressing her cheek and the outline of her lips with gentle fingertips. He lingered there for a minute, then wandered to her neck, tracing her flawless throat with a barely contained admiration.
She continued to stare at him, wordlessly giving him permission to proceed. His adventurous hand bravely ran up and down her back, dancing across her slim waist. She was still as still as a statue, betraying no thoughts or feelings.
“You are so beautiful,” he murmured, returning his attention to her immaculate face. His hand found its match, with slender fingers that fit perfectly in his grasp. He held her hand tightly, as if he was never going to let her go. For the moment, he had no intention of doing so.
Her attractive mouth stretched into a glorious smile, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. Slowly she closed the distance between them, giving him a little taste of heaven. For a few seconds, his eyes closed as he enjoyed the touch of her lips against his own. After she finally broke the kiss, she reached out with her other hand and brushed her thumb against his warm cheek.
He suddenly found it hard to breathe. With much effort, he swept her into a dizzying embrace. “I love you so much,” he whispered, his lips close to her ear, smiling with the last of his strength. She returned his gaze evenly, her fingers grasping at every inch of him, mirroring his own actions. They received comfort in each other's caress.
A seemingly limitless amount of minutes passed as they rested together, peace surrounding them. The wind brushed past their features, swirling around them as if to create a world which was their own.
When the last grain of sand trickled through the hourglass of fate, she opened her lips with a sudden urgency. “I..."
But he had already grown cold in her arms, his grip loosened, icy tendrils snaking through his lean body. An inner part of her shattered as his baby blue eyes closed, frozen forever.
Slowly disentangling herself from him, she sat up and reached for the nearby bush of thorns. Her fingertips were streaked with blood after she withdrew a single rose. She tightened his grasp around the slender stem of the flower, which happened to match the dark red that blossomed across his chest.
"I love you too," she choked, staring at him a little longer. She left him a small, lasting kiss on his forehead.
Her long, white dress swirled around her feet as she struggled to stand. Her impassive mask completely melted along with her pretty features, washed away by a flood of sorrow.
A crystal tear splashed onto the already wet grass as she hastily walked away.
Just to clear up any misunderstandings, this story was basically a moment in two lover's lives where hope was lost and all they had was each other. Thank you for reading. Let me know if you have any questions, suggestions, or grammar/spelling corrections.
