Who would have thought that there would come a day when you would hate the one person you had a secret crush on? And who would have thought that your attraction to one guy could be spoilt in just a moment. Vincent was that guy for me. We had grown up together had tolerated each other for the first four or five years of our lives, then came the day it all changed. The day of my party. I can see it as though it were yesterday.
No one could ever understand what ever went on between Vincent and me. We just never got along. We were always fighting or pranking each other, so much it drove our parents up the walls. I didnt like Vincent very much and I had no good reason why, I just didnt. And then the day came that I just hated him. We normally would have ignored each other at big events or at any family gatherings.
You see our families were very close which meant we saw each other very often, we also attened the same school. So to pretend you don't know someone you see ever so often was something close to impossible.
It was my seventh birthday party and all my friends were there. There were a few of my dads business associates there along with their kids as well. The life of the rich many would say is filled with as many business opportunities as possible.
I was all dressed up in cute pink and black scoop neck polka dotted dress and my hair up in to a curly ponytail. I was ready to be the perfect hostess on my special day, then Vincent came. Dressed in dark jeans pants, blue shirt and a white bow tie he looked as though he walked out of a fashion magazine. But he seemed to out for trouble as he smiled at his best friend and partner in crime Kevin.
There were times they were known to be a bit mischievous and a bit rambunctious but they had never crossed the border of playing just a few silly pranks on either Leyana or me. But today despite the looks the two friends shared with each, they both seemed to be on their best behaviour. But I still couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to go wrong.
The sound of the my mom calling everyone's attention distracted me from my problem at hand and the boys were soon forgotten. They carried out my birthday cake while singing Happy Birthday. I smiled, nothing had gone wrong so far so there was nothing to worry about. Could there?
The candles were lit and I closed my eyes and made my silent wish. I opened my eyes ready to blow out my candles when... "Kaboom"
The sound sent everyone into a screaming fit while Kevin and Vincent were sprawled on the grassy lawn in a fit of uncontrolable laughter.
"I'm gonna get you for this Vincent!" I screamed at him. I was just furious. If only I could really get my hands on him. But NO I had to be a good hostess and get cleaned up and got back to what was left of my party.
The two friends were grounded but that still didn't change the fact that I could no longer than those two annoying little brats.

"Earth to Kristy," Someone waved their hand in front of my face. "There is no need to glare at me. I know we've never been on good terms but the least you could do is give me a chance."
My mind, that had been far away came crashing down to the present time. Vincent sat waiting for me to make my next move. Though I was good at playing chess, I now had doubts about winning. Vincent could always cheat in any game he wanted. He'd find the loop hole and he'd use it to his advantage.
Not paying attention to the next move that he could possibly make, I decided to move my knight. Almost immediately I was sorry. For he made his next move and was able to take my queen before I knew what happen. Somehow I was convinced that he cheated and I hated even more that I hadn't seen it happen. This time my glare was even more pronounced.
"Do you ever learn to play fair?" I asked irritably
"Nope. But you did make a wrong move, the best move for me to win." He grinned
Seeing that this wasn't gonna get anywhere I got up from my seat. "You know something, I do hope you learn to play a fair game, Would it kill you to do it just one in your life? On second thought, I doubt it, even if you life depended on it you would't." I said as I flashed my hair from my face.
"You two seemed cozy. Had fun?" Leya said walking up to me from the direction of the street.. Her blue gray eyes seeming to look deep into my soul. "You seemed to be calling a truce. Am I deceived?" She prodded nodding towards Vincent who sat with his next opponent as we walked out of the park.
"Like hell to the no! Are you crazy?" I replied a little shocked that she really didn't know the answer to that.
"Well what was I to think?" Leya asked innocently.
"That I was just playing a game with a rival." I was feeling a little irritate. Why was Leya talking like this? "Well nothing is happening. ok? Rest assured." I sighed
"Ok good because I was getting a little worried. i sure wouldn't know how to react." she giggled then.
I chuckled with her as we linked elbows and walked towards our favorite record store, Shakedown.
"So how did he get you to play?"
"You know how infuriatingly annoying he can be. He just wouldn't take no for an answer. So I gave in, but I lost the game." I shrugged as if I didn't care. But if anyone knew how much I cared that I lost the game, it was Leya. "C'mon lets drown ourselves in music."
~2~Kristal's POV
I sat looking at the clock at the front of the class. Just a few more minutes and it would be lunch, and I sighed for the umpteenth time. History was not one of my favorite subjects and I really would like to get away from Vincent and Kevin's constant throwing of paper balls at my head. Though we were in our senior year in high school they still hadn't grown up it seemed. There were a few giggles behind but I kept looking ahead at Mr. Leeward.
Now there's someone who could bored the hell out of a clown. He was your modern day midget at about 5 ft tall, with broad rimed glassed and his bald spot that he tries to hide with a toupee that constantly seem to be falling of. Now that was funny.
I felt as something harder hit the back of my head. This time they got my attention and got me to turn around. Vincent flashed me his most charming smile that seem to get all the girls around the school to swoon and drool over him. He had sapphire blue eyes and each time he smiled his dimples would make their presence known. He ran long tanned fingers through an already untidy dark brown hair. I sighed and he shrugged as if he was innocent.
"Ms. Hoffman I would really appreciate it if you paid attention." Mr. Leeward called front the front. I reluctantly turned around wishing for the bell to ring.
At some point I zoned out only to be brought back by the sound of the bell, signaling the end of class. "Finally." I whispered to myself.
I was on my way out when Mr. Leeward called both Vincent and me to stay behind for a little. I reluctantly dragged myself to Mr.Leeward's table and stood patiently, though inside I was anything but.
"Well Ms. Hoffman, I've noticed that your grade in this class has been suffering miserably." He paused.
I didn't need him to say it for I already knew that but I didn't need Vincent hearing this and I couldn't blame him for my low grades either. I hated when I had to study for a History pop quiz.
"Does he have to be here? I don't think all this info is important for him to know." I pointed towards Vincent who now had a look on his face that said he was enjoying this a lot. Maybe too much for my liking, and something told me that I wasn't going to like what Mr. Leeward was about to tell me.
"Well Ms. Hoffman, I was thinking since Vincent is one of my best students, that until your grades improved that he would be your tutor." He pushed glasses up his nose and smiled like he had give the best news yet.
"Just tell me to donate my organs now and I'll do it, but HIM BE MY TUTOR!" I was winded. "You've got to be kidding. Please tell me you're joking, that this is a huge prank." I begged. "And how is it possible that a guy like him who hardly pays attention in class, and cheats in every game possible be the best student in your class?" I asked furiously.
"Is it that bad that I could do well enough in school to be your tutor for how long time permits?" Vincent asked. For a moment something flashed in his eyes but I couldn't tell what it was for it was gone in the blink of an eye, like it wasn't there in the first place.
"Yes! It would be that bad." for a moment he frowned then smiled his killer smile just before Mr. Leeward interrupted us.
"Well Ms. Hoffman this is not a prank and I don't make these kind of jokes, so I'm as serious as the judge. So as of today you'll be tutored by Mr. Coke. I've already spoke to your parents and they are quite ok with it. That is all you may go."
"Just kill me now please."I moaned looking towards the ceiling as I walked towards the door.
I walked quickly out the door but not before I heard Vincent shouted behind me. "Hey wait up!" I tried to walk even faster but to no avail. I totally forgot that he was 6 ft 7" to my 5 ft 5" so I would have to look up into his face, but in this case he could easily catch up.
As I saw the door to the Administrator's office I turned towards it and went in. Unfortunately Vincent followed me in.
"Hi Mom." I smiled as I entered and spot the top of Peony Marshall's brown hair, who happened to be staring at her computer screen. Peony is Leyana's mom, whom I call mom as well for as long I can remember. Leya does the same with my mom too. It was a funny thing when we are together that people never paid much attention to resemblance to realize that we could never be biological sisters. For
