fly and has like super strength or something like that.”
“Wow, you don’t hear about that everyday.” Jason said still playing dumb.
“You’re not even a little excited about this?” asked Josh.
“No, I think it’s exciting. It’s good to have someone out there doing some good,” said Jason.
“You mean it’s awesome to have an alien here! Here of all places too.” cried Josh. He was pretty excited, but Jason decided that it wasn’t good to get his friends curious.
“Ha! An alien? It’s probably just some guy with a lot of money” declared Jason.
“No way! This guy has got to be from another planet or something.” Josh declared.
“Whatever dude,” said Jason began to grab his morning books from his locker. It was a pretty common schedule, but he usually threw his books to the bottom of his locker. There was a pause as Jason flipped threw old papers, seeing if he needed any of them today. He may have learned quicker than humans, but organization wasn’t a huge trait of his. Josh began to check out a girl or two as a group of them walked by. Jason stood up straight again and closed his locker. He thought about Sarah for a moment, then figured now was a good time to ask the girl expert about her.
“So, what do you know about a girl named Sarah Williams?” Jason asked.
“Williams? What about her?” asked Josh.
“Well is she cool and stuff?”
“Why?” Josh questioned with a laugh, “Has Jason finally taken an interest in a girl?”
“No, not like that,” Jason defended, “I just met her the other day. That’s all.”
“Whatever dude, I’ve got to run. See ya at lunch?”
“Yeah man, see ya there” agreed Jason.
The two took their separate ways and went about their normal days. He thought a little about what his friend had said. Maybe he did like this girl. His species was allowed to love right? He wouldn’t ever really know exactly what the Aspen were like. It saddened him to know that he and his uncle were the last of their kind. He never got to know his mother or his father. Jason always dreamt of his father being one of the greatest Aspen warriors to ever live. He pictured him as the kind of warrior that would lead enormous armies of noble soldiers to fight against those who caused chaos, death and destruction. They were led to fight the same kind of creatures that attacked the Aspen.
Every time Jason thought of the Quixon, his stomach turned over. He wanted to find them and destroy every last one of them. Any soulless monsters that would kill an entire species should be expunged from the universe. Jason wanted to come face to face with the one who led the Quixon. He wanted to find the one who killed his mother and father. He had a feeling, deep down inside, that one day; he would get his shot at revenge. He would finally be able to avenge the death of all the Aspen who perished years ago.
The first half of the school day seemed to pass by quickly. Jason found himself lost in thought for the most part. When he finally got down to lunch, he found his usual table with all of his friends. He could feel something was different today when he walked up. There were no normal arguments or conversations. They were all directing their attention towards him. Each one of his friends had a smile on his face that Jason did not like. He put down his food and took his seat. It was Matt who spoke first.
“So, my good buddy isn’t a homosexual after all huh?” he said with a laugh.
“What are you talking about?” asked Jason.
“Oh don’t play dumb Jay,” said Tony, “You knew once you told Josh, we would all know.”
“Oh,” muttered Jason, “That,”
“That??” cried Matt, “You call you’re first major crush a “that”?”
“Hey, I don’t know what Josh told you, but she isn’t a crush,” he declared, “She is just a girl I met and I asked Romeo here if he knew anything about her.”
“Jay, don’t BS us,” said Josh.
“Yeah, man, we support this,” said Tony.
“Yeah, we do,” seconded Matt.
“You guys are overreacting. I simply asked about her and that’s all. I’m not even really interested,” lied Jason. He knew as soon as he said it that his friends wouldn’t buy it.
“Well what if I told you that I knew something about her,” said Tony. Jason looked up from his lunch and starred at his friend. He played right into the trap he friends set. They knew by now that he was curious in what Tony knew.
“Yep, I knew it,” Josh laughed, “He is definitely into her.”
“Alright, so what if I am?” admitted Jason, “Is there anything bad I should know?”
“Nah, she is clean as far as I know,” said Tony.
“Yeah, I would have heard something if she had done something nasty,” said Matt with a grin.
“Me too,” Josh agreed, “I would have gone for her, but she is too clean for me.”
“Really Josh? I thought you liked to soil the unsoiled,” Tony laughed. The three guys all laughed and Jason shook his head.
“You guys are ridiculous.” He finished. The conversation about Sarah went nowhere from there. The four of them all began talking about other things. They discussed the mystery guy from the news again. Jason tried to lead them away from the idea that guy was from another planet. It was hard to convince his friends otherwise, but by the end of lunch, he was pretty sure that they had multiple theories.
The day proceeded as normal. Jason went to the remainder of his classes and walked home as usual. He even managed to clear his head from everything but school work. He was still crazy about human knowledge. When the final bell rang, Jason grabbed what he needed and began his usual walk home. The warm autumn air felt soothing on his skin. He felt like he wanted to just float in the sky for awhile and let the air flow throughout his body. He closed his eyes and took a long, deep breath. This world was perfect.
Suddenly, he felt a hand touch his shoulder. He opened his eyes and stopped walking. He turned around to find the very girl he had been thinking about for the entire day starring back at him. She had a large smile on her face. Her hair shone in the afternoon sun and her hypnotizing eyes caused his heart to beat faster. To Jason, she was the most beautiful person he had ever seen.
“Hey there,” she said.
“H-hey,” stuttered Jason, “How’s it goin’”
“It’s going good,” she answered, “How about you?”
“Can’t complain,” he said.
“That’s good,” she smiled.
There was an awkward silence. Neither of them knew what to say. Jason, who usually wasn’t lost for words, was completely frozen. He didn’t know what had suddenly come over him, but something about being around this girl caused him to feel…unique.
“Umm, are you doing anything this Friday?” asked the girl.
“Not that I know of,” answered Jason.
“Would you like to…hang out or something?” Sarah proposed. He finally put together what was happening. She was just as nervous as he was. Had she felt a slight connection as well? Maybe this was his chance to find out if he had feelings for her.
“Well…yeah. Yeah I’d like that.” He said with a smile. He could sense her mood change from being nervous to being excited.
“Really?” she asked in disbelief, “I mean great! Well, I have to get home, but we’ll talk about the details tomorrow,”
“Alright, sounds good.” He said.
“Okay! See you tomorrow!” she said with another big smile and with that, hurried away. Jason was amazed. Not only was this girl interested in him, but he had a date scheduled with her. Things couldn’t be going any better than they were. He wondered what his uncle would think of all of this. He decided that once he got home, he would go visit. Jason’s life was stress free and relaxed. He didn’t have a worry in the world. Jason didn’t know, however, that this was the last time he would feel this relaxed and secure for a long time.

Bounty or Personal Vendetta?

Jason thought long and hard about everything that he transpired in the past week. He started a life on his own, saved lives, and now maybe even falling in love. He tried to focus on other things but all that came to his mind when he tried were beautiful blue eyes. All he thought about was her magnificent blonde hair. All that was on his mind was a simple on human girl. Sarah Williams.
He thought about what she had said. Could she really have felt a connection as well? If so, how could he have feelings for a human? Aspen weren’t the same as humans. They were a different species all together. He was pretty sure that there couldn’t be love between the two, but yet he had these feelings for this girl. What was different about her? Jason thought about this as he left the school grounds.
He thought about what she had said. He decided that going out with her on Friday could serve as good research. Maybe if he explored these feelings more then he could figure out what they actually were. She seemed innocent enough. His friends may not have known her all that well, but perhaps that was a good thing. Some of the girls his friends knew weren’t exactly the type of people he liked. They did bad things that were harmful to themselves or other people, such as drugs or sleeping around. He tried to picture Sarah as one of those people and laughed as he thought about it. She definitely wasn’t one of those people.
There was another one of those Homecoming dances coming up next month. He hadn’t ever gone to one. He had been asked before, but was busy training with his uncle and had to say no. This time though, it was his choice and he was thinking it could be fun. His friends always seemed to have a good time. They picked a king and a queen for each dance as well. His friends had described the king as a popular jock, such as a football quarterback. They also described the queen as “someone everyone wanted to poke”, which still never made sense to him. His friends found it funny though, so he laughed when they mentioned it.
He became lost in many happy thoughts. The world was such an innocent place. There were no troubles or current wars. People died every day, but it was nothing that could be prevented. For the most part though, the world was all at peace. Nothing could possibly go wrong. Who would want to threaten such a peaceful place? As he thought of this, he was unaware of his surroundings. His guard was down. He crossed the street on the outskirts of town. He was near the road that led downhill and into the city. He was thinking of what to do for dinner when, suddenly, everything changed.
The blow came from the left and hit on his cheek. Something had hit him, and hit him strong. It sent him sailing through the air and into road sign. The sign split in half as he projected through it. He hit the earth, landing on his back and skidding across the ground. He dug his fingers into the ground to stop him from sliding and looked up. What the hell was that? What hit him? Suddenly, he felt a heat signature behind him. Before he could turn his head
